One of the most fascinating things about toys is how detailed they are, and how they often have hidden compartments with additional accessories that fold, compress, and zip back up into a compact, portable way. A long-time favorite, Barbie’s dream camper, does that better than most, offering a master class in small-space storage that’s honestly enviable. At the push of a button, a regular RV pops open on the top and sides to reveal a pool, sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
That expandable camper concept can practically be yours IRL (and we’re not talking about the life-size Barbie Dream Camper for children that also exists because of course it does), sans the pool. Dutch company Udo Camp has an innovative camper that goes from a short storage trailer to full-size camper in 30 seconds—and all at the touch of a button.
Called The iCamp, it looks like a flattened sedan when it’s in travel mode, but once you arrive to your campsite, press the remote control button to raise the roof to 6.5 feet and you’ve got a multi-functional living space for the night or a whole week. Watch the video below to see this Optimus Prime-level transformation.
And when we say multi-functional, we mean it. Once the camper has fully expanded, the main living area can be configured a few different ways depending on your needs and the time of day. A U-shaped seating area around the dining table can easily seat up to six. Once night falls, the seating area can be rearranged to create a full-size bed.
On the other side of the cabin space is the kitchen, complete with a four-burner stovetop, mini fridge, and sink. Inside the camper, the kitchen is accessible under lift-up storage lids, which, when closed, allow the same area to be used as additional seating or sleeping space. The best feature? The entire kitchen can slide out and be used outside of the camper (feels more authentic, right?), which also means you don’t have to open up the entire camper to access the kitchen.
The camper is less than 6 feet wide, and since it’s relatively lightweight, you don’t even need a huge truck to tow it, which makes it way more accessible and easy to transport. Turning your Barbie playtime into a reality starts at around $15,550.
