"I'm so inspiredby typography — one simple letter can say so many different things!" says Buenos Aires-born Eche Martinez, who developed a Mad Men–esque obsession with branding during an early stint at an ad agency. The 34-year-old approaches his interior design work — which he developed alongside his designer mother and, later, under Bay Area mentor Martha Angus — with a similar emphasis on form. "I want to portray a strong message using the fewest possible elements," he says. This translates to memorable rooms with moody palettes, classic pieces, and a witty mixing of materials (like the marble-topped, grass cloth–framed side tables below). Letter perfect.
