In a renovated Tudor beach house on the New Jersey shore, Colleen Bashaw conjures a riot of boho quirk and breezy seaside vibes for Scott Belair, the cofounder of Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie.
Bashaw hoped to add the texture of a natural-fiber rug in the entryway without covering up the custom-patterned cement tile. So she installed a sisal rug on the wall: "We thought it would be a fun focal point," she says. The Norma pendant light is by Arteriors.
In the living room, Bashaw mixed natural textures with pops of color for an eclectic and relaxed ambience.
Accents of nautical brass were paired with cerused oak cabinetry for a casual elegance in the kitchen. The Silestone counters have a leather finish. The concrete-topped island is painted in Benjamin Moore's Turquoise Haze.
The breakfast room's wall paper is Brett Design's Knit Large.
"I wanted every inch of the powder room to be special," Bashaw says. The wallpaper is Brett Design's Peonies. The vintage brass console was fitted with a Waterstone Faucets fixture, and the custom back splash and counter are made of Stone Surfaces' Black Absolute granite.
The master bedroom, which overlooks the ocean, is covered in Christopher Farr Cloth's Carnival wallpaper. "I wanted it to feel like a cocoon," Bashaw says. The custom burlap bed with nailhead trim is dressed with monogrammed pillowcases by Leontine Linens, sheets from Schweitzer Linen and a Les Indiennes throw.
The one-of-a-kind vintage lace–fronted armoire is from Anthropologie, which the client cofounded.
The spa-inspired guest bathroom has a Claire bathtub from Signature Hardware, Kohler's Pinstripe fixtures and Cole & Son's Palm Leaves wallpaper.
"It felt cozy," Bashaw says, "to do pattern on pattern, texture on texture" in the daughter's bedroom. The side table is draped in a custom pink zebra linen.
