How many times have you watched the opening to Clueless and thought, "Damn, I wish I had that computer closet?" Because I know that I've been dreaming about it since the '90s, and I can't be the only one. Trying to get dressed in the morning can feel like a chore, but it would be so much easier if, like Cher Horowitz, you could simply let your computer show you how an outfit would look on you before ever even opening your closet door.
Okay, okay, so Amazon's Echo Look isn't exactly like that, but it does make finding the perfect outfit—and organizing your entire wardrobe—a lot easier. Plus, it can do something that Cher's closet couldn't do: It can take full-length photos and videos of you in your favorite outfits, and all you have to do is ask. Yep—because it's an Amazon Echo device, it's equipped with Alexa, and you can control it with just your voice.
The Echo Look works mostly like your standard Echo—you can still ask it to tell you the weather or set alarms, for example, though there are a few capabilities the other Echo devices have that this one does not. You can't call or message anyone with Alexa on an Echo Look, and it doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity, either. But, the Look makes up for that with its own cool, unique features.
Along with its voice-controlled camera (which can take photos and 6-second videos, and has built-in lighting and a depth sensor that you can use to blur the background of the photos you take), the Echo Look allows you to get a live view of your entire outfit—do a full spin around and check yourself out in the app to see it from every angle. It also has a feature called Style Check, which can help you choose between two outfits. Just upload two outfit photos, and Style Check will give you a recommendation based on expert advice and trend information.
On top of that, you can use the Look to create your own personal style look book by taking photos of your outfits every day—you can then go back into the app and see what you've worn in the past and help you keep track of your favorites. It also has algorithms to curate your closet for you, organizing your outfits by season, occasion, and more. And you can opt to your outfit photos with Amazon fashion specialists, which in turn will allow the Echo Look to give you personalized shopping recommendations for items that will pair well with your existing wardrobe.
It may not be Cher's computerized closet fully actualized, but the Echo Look is probably the closest you can get to living your Clueless dreams—at least, for now. Getting dressed will never be the same again.
