I am a troubled sleeper and have been for years. I don't do myself any favors with my night owl ways of staying up late working or watching television. When I do go to bed, I don't have trouble falling asleep—any of my friends can tell you they've seen me actually fall asleep in bars, even when I'm dead sober—but getting actually restful sleep is difficult for me. So I've been on a quest to improve my bed karma in the hopes that sweet dreams will follow. I started with the internet's favorite comforter, the Buffy, then I added the new bed essential, a weighted blanket, before finally stumbling upon the Coop pillow.
When I saw the more than 15,000 positive reviews on Amazon, I knew I owed it to myself to see what all the fuss was about. My god. The moment I rested my head on this glorious pillow, I felt like my life might be forever changed. It felt like the softest cloud was giving my head the gentlest of hugs. And before I knew it, I couldn't wait to go to bed at night. I was sleeping 10 hours without any struggle. My pillows are all I can think about during my commute, and it's so hard to say goodbye in the morning. It's become a full-on addiction, so I had to with you all why this is the greatest pillow that is and ever will be:
It's supportive while still incredibly soft.
The Coop pillow is filled with shredded memory foam. I've coveted a memory foam pillow for years, but always was worried they were a little too stiff. I like to beat my pillow into the perfect position, and a traditional memory foam pillow wouldn't allow for that. But by shredding the foam, this pillow offers that feeling of sinking into foam while still being moldable.
It's so fluffy! Or not, whatever you like.
When your pillow arrives it comes rolled in a flat package. To get the pillow to your desired fluffiness, you get to punch it and twist it until the foam inside expands. It's basically magic. Plus, the pillow also comes with extra fluff which you can add if you need a little extra. You can also remove fluff it you prefer a flatter pillow, but why would you do that?
However, there is one con.
When I first opened the pillow, and started fluffing it, it definitely had a distinctive smell that was not great. Searching the Q&As on Amazon, I saw that this was normal for pillows made with memory foam. I forged ahead and slept on it right away cause I couldn't resist the softness, and I'm happy to report that the smell dissipated after a few days. When I need to re-fluff, the smell sometimes briefly returns, but it's been easy enough for me to ignore.
I am allergic to EVERYTHING—dust, pollen, nickel, raw carrots, the cat that's currently sleeping next to me. The Coop's pillow's is dust-mite-resistant, and has a washable bamboo cover that keeps all serious allergens from taking root. Plus, since it's memory foam, us allergen sufferers don't have to worry about extra sneezing from down feathers.
It's high-quality, but affordable.
Before the Coop pillow I was sleeping on two pillows from IKEA. Clearly, it was price more than anything that brought me to that decision. The Coop pillow is $59.99 on Amazon for a queen. Probably $10 more than I spent on my IKEA pillows and already this pillow is miles ahead in terms of comfort and quality.
I could go on and on, but my pillows are calling me. The first step in conquering an addiction is acceptance, after all.
