When Natipernavigare editorial director Joanna Saltz spotted this python-print carpet in the Stark showroom in New York City, she couldn't get it out of her mind. "I loved that it was a statement AND a neutral," she says. "I imagined it slithering up a flight of stairs." So yes, there's the whoa-factor.
But all three colorways are super sophisticated—this is not a screamy yellow-and-bronze leopard print we're talking about. It's very easy to picture the pattern sprawled underneath posh furnishings, like in the gorgeous rendering of a bedroom, above.
“Sexy python, ooh la la!," said Jenny Dina Kirschner, principal of JDK interiors, when presented with the swatch. "One might imagine seeing this Stark carpet in a living room or master suite, but I’d prefer it to be fun and playful, rather than serious and formal. What about using this fabulously patterned rug in a sophisticated bedroom?" She even described the Frost colorway—a blend of blue-gray, silver, and white—as "soft and soothing." You heard it here first: Python-print can give off warm-fuzzy vibes.
That Frost color is is also a favorite of HB's market director Carisha Swanson. "Blue is unexpected," she explains. "You always see animal prints in the same variations of brown, and that colorway feels fresh!" But traditionalists might favor it in Silver (a glowy gray) or Charcoal (the darkest of the bunch, nearly black). No matter which color you spring for, the print will deliver a whole lot of substance and style—and probably more than one Oh My Gosh!
