In 2017, Kensington Palace officially opened a memorial garden for Princess Diana, marking what had been two decades since her tragic death. The Sunken Garden was filled with limitless white forget-me-not flowers in her memory, which still hold a dear place in the heart of the Royal Family.
Yesterday, on Mother's Day (in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe), Duchess Meghan Markle posted an adorable photo of herself and her newborn Archie's teeny feet in a garden.
Though reports have yet to confirm where exactly the photo of Meghan on her first Mother's Day was taken, what matters is actually in the background. The gorgeous flowers below Meghan's arms and the royal baby's feet are actually (not coincidentally) beautiful, blue forget-me-nots.
The white flowers in the memorial garden at Kensington Palace, were chosen not only for the memorialization inherent in their name, but because they were reportedly Diana's favorite flowers. So, with the blue version in her photo, Meghan perfectly honored her late mother-in-law. Meanwhile, her caption quoted a Nayyirah Waheed poem titled "Lands" that serves as an ode to all mothers.
my first country;
the first place i ever lived.
Since Meghan and Harry's engagement announcement in the Princess Diana Memorial Garden at Kensington Palace, it is clear that the couple will pay tribute to the Princess in every milestone they have together. Little Archie will certainly grow up hearing lots of stories of his late grandmother.
