16 Things You Didn't Know About Scott McGillivray

If you haven't seen the guy's dance moves, you're missing out.

You already know Scott McGillivray as the renaissance man of HGTV. As he proves on his show "Income Property," he's a real estate pro and a smart contractor. But we don't think you realize just how multi-talented he is:

1. His interest in real estate started in business school.

In college, Scott earned an honors degree in commerce. During his third year, he struggled to find a place to live. He noticed there weren't enough rental properties available to students who were seeking them, he explained in an interview with Hoss Magazine. He chose to analyze the business model, and the rest is history.

2. He divides his time between Ontario and Florida.

Some days are snow days, other days are sunnier. Scott resides in Toronto, Ontario (where he was born and raised) with his wife and two daughters, but they also spend time at their other house in Fort Myers, Florida.

3. He owned 25 properties by the time he was 25.

In college, Scott stumbled upon a nice money-making idea: He decided to buy a house and rent it out to his friends. When that worked well, he bought another property the following year, rented it out to other tenants, and continued investing and flipping more properties. "I fell in love with real estate, renovations, and became a licensed contractor when I was 26," he told Hoss Magazine.

4. He was once named People's Sexy Man of the Week.

His goofy personality and charming good looks (seriously, how does his hair look so perfect all the time?) landed him the title in late 2014. People also loved that he's a true family man. "We go to the zoo, go apple-picking, you name it," Scott told the magazine. "Sabrina [his wife] and my two daughters always come first."

5. He was in a boy band.

In the late 90's, Scott rocked out (and rocked the quintessential boy band look) in his group "Next Element." Um, can we request a comeback tour?

6. He's worked on "Income Property" for seven years.

The HGTV host renovated his first property for the show in 2008, and has since filmed more than 120 episodes over nine seasons. In addition to "Income Property" Scott has also been on HGTV's "Flipping the Block," "Canada's Handyman Challenge," and "All-American Handyman."

7. He's a really fantastic dancer.

And we don't just mean the Macarena. When he got married in 2009, Scott swept the ballroom with his wife Sabrina like he was Prince Charming and she was Cinderella. Get ready to gawk at the first dance:

8. He has a weird hidden talent.

When his wife was nine months pregnant, Scott challenged her to see who could stick out their stomach farther, he told HGTV. And he totally won:

9. His favorite number is 7.

Scott told HGTV he likes the number seven because he was born on April 7, in the '70s.

10. He's all for playing dress up with his kids.

Just look at them all in their Frozen costumes.

12. In his spare time, he hangs out on the water.

From surfing to water skiing, Scott is pretty active at the beach.
