Eve's great no matter where she's goes—except when she goes to Life-Size 2, the sequel no one really asked for. Last weekend, Freeform aired the movie for the first time, and fans responded with plenty of negativity. While there are a lot of things being called out on , like the pile-on of sexual innuendos and the generally uninteresting plot, there's one particularly odd scene that stands out above the rest. Let's discuss.
Much like in the original film, the lead character Grace uses a resurrection spell to bring Eve, an iconic doll produced by Marathon Toys, to life. During the ceremony, Grace's bedroom is filled with burning candles (probably for dramatic effect, because Lindsay Lohan's character didn't use any candles in the first movie, so the spell does not call for them).
After completing the spell and seeing no results, Grace announces to her young neighbor Lex that, “I mean I did just try to cast a spell on a doll to save my company with a twelve year old, so I kind of deserve a night out.” That's fine. She probably did deserve a night out after that. But here's the problem. She tosses the Eve doll onto her bed and just walks right out of the room.
She left EVERY. SINGLE. CANDLE. BURNING. This is literally the biggest no-no, whether you own a home or you live in a dorm. Everyone knows you don't leave your candles burning.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 8,200 home fires were caused by candles each year from 2012-2016. The NFPA reports that these fires caused an annual average of 80 deaths, 770 injuries, and $264 million in direct property damage. To add insult to injury, December has the highest rate of home fires, and this is supposed to be a Christmas movie. Are you serious, Freeform?
I knew this movie wasn't going to be good, but I didn't think it was going to be this bad. That said, we can all learn from this very stupid mistake. Blow out your candles before you leave the house. Or, if you really can't handle that kind of responsibility, get an essential oil diffuser instead.
