Yes, your chalkboard wall is very cute. It's Insta-worthy and eye-catching and certainly adds a statement to your wall. But really, more than anything, it is a waste of space and time.
For starters, there is something about chalkboard paint that makes people want to touch your walls. They see it and lose all control, wanting to know what chalk paint feels like. Spoiler: It feels like a damn chalkboard now get your hands off of my walls.
Then there's the extreme pressure to always have a cute saying written. *Fact: Those who have chalkboard walls spend an average of two hours perfecting their quote or art every time they change it up. So much precious time is spent re-writing a script "L" as a part of their "live, laugh, love," statement. Then, if they're trying to be punny, so much research goes in to finding the best witty quote for their kitchen. I love pretty, well-thought out spaces—but chalkboard walls with quotes are so 2017, and not worth the effort. Have you heard of letter boards, though?
As if all of the above isn't enough to make you avoid chalkboard paint cans entirely, there's also the fact that cleaning the paint-covered walls is a straight up b*tch. Whether you erase a saying or a mural, you have to wash down the entire area to start with a clean slate. And, congratulations! All of that chalk erasing has earned you a floor with a ton of dust—yes, it will track through the entire house.
So, if you really have the urge to draw with chalk, go outside. There's a free chalkboard out there. It's called the sidewalk. Have a blast.
*Not an actual fact.
