Vitamix has announced a recall of approximately 105,000 blending containers after finding that they may pose a laceration hazard. The containers can reportedly separate from the base, causing blades to be exposed. The company has received 11 consumer complaints of lacerations as a result of this issue.
The recall affects 8-ounce blending bowls and 20-ounce blending cups sold as part the Vitamix Ascent and Venturist series.
The bowls and cups come with the Vitamix Venturist Model 1200 blenders, but can also be bought separately. All of these products were sold nationwide at Costco,Williams-Sonoma, and Vitamix.com between April 2017 and July 2018.
The models have a blade date code of March 2018 or earlier. The date code is laser-etched on top of the blade in the base in the format MM-YY. So, March 2018 would be etched as “03-18.” If your model has a green or orange dot on the bottom of the blade base, the defect has already been repaired.
If you own a recalled container, you should stop using it immediately and Vitamix for a free repair kit. You can check to see if your model is affected by entering your serial number on Vitamix’s website.
