Nobody knows HomeGoods better than Christine Lee, better recognized as @HomeGoodsObsessed. She's the mastermind behind the fan account on Instagram, with more than 72,000 followers begging for a look at the latest items the chain store is selling. Within two minutes of talking to her it's clear — though she has no affiliation to the brand and doesn't get paid for what she does — Christine really is HomeGoods obsessed.
About 13 years ago, Christine was in her mid-twenties, working in the beauty industry in California. She had her first "real adult" apartment, and was over the generic offerings IKEA was selling. She wanted pretty, unique decor — but, like most of us, she was on a budget. Enter the HomeGoods in Irvine, where she first became obsessed.
Whether it was that store or she was on the road for work, Christine couldn't resist a HomeGoods run. (Same.) In one year alone, she visited 40 states for work, and during her travels she'd find herself roaming the aisles of the nearest HG. Fast forward to today, and Christine — who says her house is 75 percent HomeGoods — has been to around 40 stores throughout the country.
As a seasoned pro who's been to more of the chain's stores than most of us, maybe even all of us, Christine says her favorite store is in San Jose, California. While she's only been about three times because it's an hour away from her main store in San Carlos, it sounds pretty magical. "I get goosebumps, I run around so excited," she says when talking about the store. "It's under two years old in a brand new space. It's clean, organized, well-stocked, and the furniture items aren't overly handled," she says.
The shop, at 1036 E Brokaw Road, is known for having all kinds of hidden gems. While you have to really inspect the decor at some stores for scuffs and scrapes, the furniture there tends to be pretty damage-free — even the finds in the clearance section, according to one Yelp reviewer. Other users have raved about its array of brand names, like Hailo trash cans sold for 50 percent its usual price, and its extensive pillow section. It's also a great place to score a 4-foot-tall disco ball, apparently.
As much as Christine loves visiting the San Jose store, she carries that enthusiasm through everything she does. Running @HomeGoodsObsessed has been a passion of hers, as she gets to tips and photos with people who understand that, yes, you can get chills from walking into a beautifully organized HomeGoods, thank you very much. "When you find something amazing, you want to it with your friend," she says about why she started her account in 2015. "That's what inspired me."
Oh, and, a HomeGoodsObsessed tip: Have an open mind and patience when walking into the store. "You're really at the mercy of the inventory that's sitting there. What they don't have on Tuesday, they'll have on Thursday. I'll walk out with zero items begging to buy something and there's nothing. Then, I go back and find that something," she says. Trust her — she shops at HomeGoods at least 3 days a week.
