When most of your days are spent on sets, access to the natural world isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. But Atlanta-based interior designer and television producer Brian Patrick Flynn and his costume-designer husband, Hollis Smith, did one better, converting a small patio off their weekend home in the North Georgia woods into an alfresco kitchen.
“I wanted the space to be a more informal cocktail situation centered around the magnificent view of the mountains,” says Flynn, who currently works on HGTV’s Dream Home and Urban Oasis. The setting informed every detail of the design, from the low-profile RH, Restoration Hardware sofas and marble-topped cocktail table (so as to not obstruct those Blue Ridge views) to the locally sourced Southern yellow pine (from Wood, Naturally) that was stained a dark espresso for the deck, walls, and slatted pergola. Durable performance fabrics and a weather-resistant Dekton countertop complete the low-maintenance vibe.
Says Flynn, “This is a place where you can kick back, take your shoes off, play a game, and just watch the sunset.”
