There are plenty of reasons we'd want to be related to Kate Upton: access to VIP events, baseball tickets via her Houston Astro husband Justin Verlander, not to mention d genes. But today, we're jealous of Christie Upton for an entirely different reason: Kate has given her a surprise home makeover.
In the latest episode of Houzz's My Houzz series, the supermodel surprises Christie with a secret renovation of her Florida home in honor of National Siblings Day. If you thought your Instagram tribute to your brothers and sisters was sweet, you've just been seriously one-upped.
"Christie always takes care of everyone around her and puts herself last, so I wanted to do something meaningful for her," Kate told Houzz of her sibling, who runs an organization which helps veterans with PTSD. Using the tools on Houzz.com and partnering with designer Andrea Fava from Motivo Home, Upton reimagined Christie's once-drab home, livening things up with texture and pattern.
In Upton's case, the primary motivator for the renovation was giving her sister and her husband Matt a space to relax and unwind—as well as a home suited to their growing family. Christie and Matt bought the home, in the Uptons' hometown of Melbourne, a year ago, and Kate explains that it's their first time "really putting down roots."
"It's an important time to do the renovation because Christie keeps doing all these projects in the home, but none of them are for her," explains the model. "So I wanted to do this with Christie in mind. After finding Andrea Fava through Houzz's Find a Professional search, the duo renovated the master and en suite, the guest bath, and the office.
Lest you think Upton was hesitant to get her hands dirty, the video tells another story: Footage shows the supermodel smashing down walls during demo and doing heavy lifting for the installation.
The resulting home features neutral colors for a soothing palette: There's plenty of Joanna Gaines's favorite shiplap, furniture with soft patinas, and luxe marble for the bathrooms.
"I wanted it to feel like her oasis in her own home," KAte explains. "I'm so happy to give her a place to relax and rejuvenate."
