One of the biggest perks of getting to work with Chip and Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper is that the couple will go out of their way to personalize your home for your family. Case in point: the genius combination room the pair created in episode seven of season five for the Baker family.
"Our client needed a back den, office, and laundry in one room so we designed this half wall/shelving unit to separate the space without making it feel too closed in," Joanna said on . "What did y’all think of this half wall in tonight's Fixer Upper?" We dig it — and predict half walls are about to become a huge trend after this episode.
On one side of the room, there's a den for the family to relax in together, infused with a neutral palette and soft furnishings (think: leather and natural wood). Behind the couch is open shelving filled with succulents, books, and other personal knick knacks that seamlessly blend into the room's decor, while subtly blocking the space on the opposite side from view.
But if you look hard enough, you can see the office and laundry room through the half wall. Joanna decked this area out with a vibrant red and navy rug and metal finishes (as opposed to the soft furnishings on the other side) to make the space feel totally separate and unique from the den.
Genius, no? We think Joanna is really on to something. Even though we're obsessed with the sheer brilliance of this room, Joanna says her favorite makeover from season five was the Aguilar family's home in episode five, which, of course, was equally stunning. As for us, we're going to wait until the season is over to pick a favorite. But we can tell you this: it's going to be a close race.
