Primary Colors Energize This Barn
I love driving the back roads around East Hampton. On one of my circuitous trips I found this fabulous barn and fell in love. It’s incredible how painting just three narrow planks—red, yellow, and blue—creates such an inspired accessoration.

Mixing Patterns Becomes an Art Form
In Atlanta recently, I made a beeline to Kay Douglass's design mecca, , and fell in love with this wall of framed wallpaper samples. The mix of bold patterns and stunning colors makes my heart jump. Remember, more than one of anything is a collection. And we design junkies love a good collection!

One Patterned "Fat Boy" Says a Thousand Words
At ’s Milan showroom these chests were painted in a variety of high-gloss, high-powered patterns and stacked up the wall. What a dynamite display! The six together are a bit over the top, of course, but each on its own is a great example of my design mantra: pattern, pattern, pattern!

The Head Gardener in London
I adore English artist ’s collection of whimsical, eccentric, recycled creatures "hanging around" the streets of London. I am always thrilled when I spot one these plastic bottle characters living in a tree—and not clogging the ocean.

Once a Mistake, Twice a Tradition, Three Times a Trend
Lately, everywhere I look I see classic flame-stitch patterns. First, I spotted it on a staircase at the in London. Then it was on a Kleenex box at the supermarket. Next, a Pellegrino bottle — actually designed by Missoni. And now this amazing wall-size sign in Atlanta is for a frame store! Trend, right?

A Cozy Place to Cuddle Up and Read
I am incapable of passing up a good chair, and I can never, ever have enough books stacked around my house, so I immediately fell desperately in love with designer 's Book Chair when I saw it in Milan. Its squatty, chunky shape, primary color palette, and ecological inspiration make it a must-have accessoration.

Recycled, Reclaimed, and Recolored
When I happened upon in Aspen, I had a momentary vision of riding around NYC on my own retro-chic Schwinn. Thank goodness it lasted only a moment. But, I did seriously consider shipping six to my house, to accessorate my garage. Color coordinated of course!

Polka Dots are Covering Paris
There are two eye-catching children’s stores on the Left Bank, one painted gray and the other orange. Both facades are accented fabulously with multicolored polka dots. I’m crazy for color and pattern. To catch my weary eye in the world of retail, it has to be innovative and interesting. This did it!
