We have a good clue from an interesting source...

Look, we've all been there. Fresh off of a night of excessive partying, we're inspired to take a new look at our lives and homes, reassess, and aim for improvement. We can only assume this was Harry Styles's thought process as he stopped into New York City's famous Strand bookstore the morning after the Met Gala last week.

On Harry's reading list? Though the bookstore was cagey about sharing official details, it revealed that multiple fans reported seeing Styles leaving with copies of two books: Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking, a prizewinning memoir about the year following the death of the author's husband, writer John Gregory Dunne, and one other book very familiar to home design enthusiasts—Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

So @harrystyles dropped into our store last week & took a selfie with this lucky customer! ✨ Onlookers say they saw Harry bring multiple copies of these two books to the registers: Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. We cannot confirm or deny this 👀

While we're going on rumor here, we can't help but imagine exactly what it is Styles is thinking of purging, per Kondo's strict rules. Now that he's already shed his onetime-One Direction bandmates for a solo career (sorry, Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn; guess you just didn't spark joy) and presumably sent all the plaid button-downs of his teen heartthrob years to Goodwill in favor of leather jackets and Gucci boots, we can only imagine Styles is looking to bring his home up to speed. As an investor in meditation app Calm, maybe he's looking to create a minimalist, zen-like space? With his Los Angeles manse on the market, perhaps the crooner is hoping to downsize? He does have homes in New York and London; might we expect a sudden influx of musical memorabilia to flood these cities' vintage shops? Guess it's just a Sign of the Times.
