Tiles can do a lot, but they can't make this splashy vision happen in your bathroom! The gorgeous agate wall by designer Alex Turco is actually a realistic (and waterproof) artwork—made of swirled resin, paint, glitter, and other materials—that looks like you put up a giant slice of crystal geode. Crystals are touted to clear your mind and help you focus, so what better way to start your day than taking a shower surrounded by this?
Artists like Turco and Stephanie Walberer, aka Mrs. Colorberry, have been quietly creating these glamorous pieces for private clients and designers in the know. But the secret may soon be out: JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa just installed glistening resin geodes in its new bathrooms. "The design was chosen to mimic the iconic cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula. The idea is that when guests are relaxing in their tub, they’ll feel as if they’re underwater in the cenote," says Christopher Calabrese, vice president and general manager for the resort. I would probably never leave!
Resin geodes don't have to be only creamy swirls, though—and they don't have to be confined to walls. Mrs. Colorberry is obsessed with covering everything in colorful, glittering resin, she says, including even her shoes! Check out the fascinating process she uses to create tables, cutting boards, and other decor pieces.
If you want a resin geode for your home but don't have the budget to hire an artist, you can try making your own. Artists Evan & Katelyn show you just how fun it can be:
No matter where you put it, a resin geode will add an instant wow factor to any room.
