Sight Unseen, an online magazine "that uncovers what's new and next in design and the visual arts", recently launched its first-ever home products: two rugs designed using Swedish company Kasthall's Rug Designer tool.
Per Sight Unseen, a new edition of the online tool just launched at Stockholm Design Week. The Rug Designer allows users to create a custom hand-woven or hand-tufted rug by choosing from a wide variety of colors, patterns, and sizes.
According to the Instagram caption, the rugs designed by Sight Unseen are available as limited edition items in Europe now, and will be launching in the U.S. come spring. In the meantime, you can check out the Rug Designer tool for yourself!
First, the tool prompts you to choose either a woven or tufted rug. Then, you pick whether you want to start with a new design or if you'd prefer to work from a template. If you choose "new", you're brought to a page with different customization options, including size and pattern. Here's what designing a "new" woven rug looks like.
Once you name your rug, and choose between a contract or residential project, you're ready to really create your rug. Here, you can drag and drop whichever patterns suit you—and then choose colors from many different color palettes.
There are some additional customizations when creating a new tufted rug. If you want more of a starting point when designing your rug, both options have all kinds of nice templates to work from.
The Rug Designer tool is ideal for situations when you have the perfect rug for a specific room or project in mind, but you haven't been able to find it anywhere. No more desperately searching necessary, because now you can simply design it yourself!
